The USB 3.0 Asmedia ASM1042A chipset has native drivers included in 10.9 and newer. The Lexar USB 3.0 memory reader is known to be unreliable with several Fresco Logic cards.Cards using other chipsets require proprietary drivers. 10.7.5 Lion through 10.10 Yosemite is supported through the open source GenericUSBXHCI driver. Due to USB 3.0 ports in the nMP, native drivers are provided in OS X for Fresco Logic FL1100 chipset cards in ML 10.8.2 or later.

Vantec usb 3 card reader mac#
This thread refers to PCIe cards for adding USB 3.0 and 3.1 to classic Mac Pros. Since I understand I can't say the brand name, lets just say that I installed it in the AFTernoon.Thread summary for latest recommendations. The card reader I ended up getting for my build is quite satisfactory. The fit of the face is not tight and smooth and falls off easily. They must be putting their brand name on another company's product. However, this card reader is clearly below the normal quality in all respects for this company. Overall Review: I got this product based on my purchase of a power supply by the same company eight years ago and it is still working perfectly. It evened out the slot but then the slots were all raised up to far and the face completely was misaligned with all of the card slots. I tried a modification by slipping a thin washer under the post of the left side of the top circuit board. With some of the slots, you might be able to maneuver the card into the slot but the CF (compact flash) is impossible because there is a guide on the face and also on the CF slot that don't line up and will never line up. Thus the slots for all of the cards are slanted and they do not line up properly with the slots on the face of the reader. It keeps the top circuit board from being fastened down far enough so that the right side is level with the left side. You could even see the imprint of the screw head in the rubber connector. The thickness of the soldered USB 3.0 connector plug is too thick. This card reader has a major design flaw. Pros: It was easy to take apart in order to see why it was a flawed design.Ĭons: This is a fairly long review but worth the read if you are considering this product. This isn't my first Vantec product and it likely won't be my last. If anything, at least I have peace of mind knowing that Vantec will stand by their products during their warranty period. The USB port on the new one is still kind of hard to plug into, and it feels wobbly compared to my first unit, but it works. I took my chances sending it in and a few days later I had a brand new unit in hand! Absolutely excellent customer service from Vantec. I used to work as a computer service tech at a local retailer and usually bent pins on anything meant you were out of luck, so I was expecting them to deny it. I contacted Vantec support about it, since the return period had already passed for Newegg, and to my surprise I was issued an RMA. At this point I had barely used that port (probably only like 10 times as I usually just left in whatever was plugged in), but every time I did use it, it felt like it required a little more force than my case and motherboard USB ports even with the same cables. It turns out that one of the pins in the USB port bent. Overall Review: About 3 months after I purchased this unit, I noticed that it wasn't reading my phone correctly when I plugged it in. It just feels like you need to be a little more careful with it. I've had two of these units now (see Other thoughts) and the card slots aren't quite flush with the openings for them and the USB port feels fragile/cheaply assembled. Each card slot is its own drive and can be used simultaneously to access different card types (the previous multi-card card reader I had only showed as one drive and could only read one card type at a time)Ĭons: -Build quality isn't that great, though not bad enough to dock an egg. Very clean design that doesn't have giant branding logos on the front Uses motherboard USB 3.0 connector (instead of having to route a USB 3.0 Type A connector to an existing USB 3.0 port like some card readers) Pros: -Much faster than the USB 2.0 reader this replaced in my machine
